The Behavioural AI Lab is a research group in the GIST research section at the University of Glasgow, led by Marwa Mahmoud. The lab conducts research at the intersection of computer vision, multimodal machine learning, and behavioural AI, with a focus on modelling human and animal behaviour from visual, auditory, physiological, and interaction signals. Our work spans affective computing, mental health technologies, social signal processing, and animal welfare, with the broader vision of developing trustworthy and interpretable AI for Social Good. We are particularly interested in understanding how subtle behavioural patterns can provide insights into internal states such as emotion, distress, wellbeing, and social interaction, while addressing key challenges including ambiguity, bias, explainability, and real-world deployment.
